The End of the Lab: A.I Just Changed the Game
Future Rise Newsletter #35 | Oct 7th (2025)
In science, experimentation and failure are routine. But here's a
devastating statistic: 90% of drugs that pass animal testing fail in
humans. That means decades of experiments, millions of animals, and
untold suffering, mostly for nothing.
Scientists at the FDA decided to try something radical. What if they
could train an A.I to become a virtual rat? They built a model called
AnimalGAN and fed it medical records of 8,000 real rats, including
every blood test, liver enzyme, and side effect across 138 drugs.
When the A.I was tested with new medicines, it did not simply spit out
guesses. It produced complete lab reports with blood counts, liver
function, and kidney enzymes. And it was accurate 96% of the time.
The breakthrough moment came with a diabetes drug called
troglitazone. It looked safe on paper and was almost identical to two
other drugs that are still prescribed today. In reality, it destroyed
human livers and had to be pulled from the market. AnimalGAN ran
100,000 virtual rats through the experiment and correctly predicted
that troglitazone would cause double the liver damage of its peers,
exactly what happened in humans.
A.I did in minutes what once required years of suffering. The
FDA is now using this technology to digitally screen drugs before they
ever reach a living animal.
Three Takeaways
• 90% of animal tested drugs fail in humans. A.I offers a smarter
path.
• AnimalGAN predicted hidden dangers missed by chemistry and
trials.
• The future of medicine is digital first, humane by design.
Actionable Insight
Build an Ethical Advantage
The next competitive edge isn't just speed, it's conscience. AnimalGAN
proves progress and compassion can coexist. As A.I reshapes business, the smartest leaders design systems that uplift people, protect the
planet and animals, and act with integrity. Humane innovation isn't
marketing, it's the new currency of trust and long-term success.
